soft and stacked,
squishy with colors and designs,
folded square,
dry and ready to get wet!

knights

Knights of modern day, both Bono and Bill,
Giving cash and coverage, to the poor and the ill,
Gates gives a billion a year, fighting the virus we fear,
And Bono holds the HIV infant, to governments ear,
here is to Bono and Bill, TIME's men of the year.

vacation

Yes, Ioana's away this week,
While on vacation, other adventure she does seek,
Than writing poetry,
With tired old me.

dollars

A world full of crisis, is what we read in the news,
All this talk of Armageddon, can lead to the blues,
financial imbalance, oil crisis or Arab strife,
states of poverty, corruption, HIV, and sad loss of life.

Lately one question, is will oil see a new peg,
Could it be that the dollar, is on its last leg?
Will Iran’s oil Bourse, next month be a big flaw?
Remember Iraq’s bourse? ended not long ago in such shock and awe!
Though it would seem any attempt, to decouple oil from dollar,
Will cause those with such thoughts, to be driven to squalor.

But why go overseas, for such crisis and collusion,
Just look within our Fed, for cover-up and delusion,
Yes, the Feds have decided, to stop reporting M3,
As for inflation you wonder, who needs transparency,
Yes we’ll print, and then print, and yes print a bit more,
But so little will find, its way to the poor's door.

mission

Make it one’s mission, said the Zen master Ryokan,
To argue, talk too much, or yell at children, thee should ban,

Nor should one speak, with a knowing air,
Or speak ill of others, or while in dispair.

Talk not about people, behind their back,
Nor name-drop, or your own karma, will you sac,

Smiling condescendingly, while others' do speak,
Only shows to the world, that you are yet weak.

questions for the day

What is the mystery of life’s origin?

What was the manner in which consciousness emerged?

What is the future course of biological and cultural evolution on planet Earth?

Why is the universe life-friendly?

cake

We’re making a cake
Cause we’re hungry to bake
Mix the flour, water and eggs
Then for a taste she begs

I say mix it up good
Then add cinnamon and sugar, you should
Oh, what a mess she makes
As she mixes up that cake

Then we pop it in the oven and wait
And check back so we aren’t late
When its done and cools
We devour it like fools!

Risk/reward

In personal affairs, or the market of money,
Its chemistry that makes, days cloudy or sunny,
from ten million years, of evolution it’s clear,
we’ve evolved a psychology, that can be driven by fear.

But more common than fear, in the market or love,
It’s the goal-directed behaviors, that enable the dove,
Be it romantic love, or that big market score,
It’s that molecule, dopamine, that motivates us more.

It’s a dopamine gate, that lets blood flow to the brain,
that neurotransmitter so small, gives us such pleasure or pain,
when levels are low, we’re cautious, lethargic, like a slug,
but when levels are high, we’re adventurous, then smug.

Though our psychology is understood, a little bit more,
Seems we’re still, as a people, rationally poor,
Yes, irrational, we are, in a predictable way,
So our fondness for risk, is here to stay.

balance

both ioana and I know it's balance that we need,
she says that means, get up from the table and don't just feed, feed,
likewise I think, that TV as it drones on corrupting the mind
should be kept off, exploring instead other interests we find.

Strategically seasoned

Next month it's Iran, that's invited China for tea,
to Sinopec, they've offered the Yadavaran oil field, strategic in glee,
Iran says to China, develop our fields for free,
Just agree, from me, to buy 10 million tons of LNG.

With jaws dropped, out maneuvered, will be,
The US and Europe, sidelined you’ll see,
Mosedeigh was much easier, they blink and then think,
Than these Shiite’s, so willing, to take nukes to the brink.

But there’s more for Mr Bush, that Iran has in store,
Seems Tehran’s also looking, south of the boarder for more,
Talks with Venezuela and Cuba, are warmer than ever,
Tehran offers Chavez, nuclear notes, oh so clever.

Again the Nuclear threat, south of Washington’s boarder,
instead of just Castro’s Havana, it’s The New South American Order,
So history rhymes, but not this time with Khrushchev,
Now it’s the terrorists, so much more elusive.

These days South America, is under great change,
Where the Spanish and Italian’s, planted grapes on the range,
There’s now a growing black market, trafficking money and gun,
and with Hezbollah in the triangle, South America is not such fun.

Yes, Iran has become, strategically seasoned,
With chess lessons from Russia, it’s clear energy’s the reason,
That countries will go, to the lengths that they do,
To compromise ethics, in the name of me and you.

warming

The chemistry of our air
Is in growing disrepair
For the hydrocarbons we burn each day
Our kids will one day pay

Its all basic chemistry
Why is it foreign to thee
For every gallon of petro burned
From high school chemistry we’ve learned

That eighteen pounds of carbon dioxide move
From the oil fields under the emperior of Saud’s,new groove
To the air vital to you and me,
And also disolved into the sea, from shining sea.

Some say the co2 levels increase by fifty percent
Since 1890 is no significant event,
Mere correlation they say
Worry about it another day,

But these days more and more
Those who have studied the science and earned the highest score
Are confirming what some chemists had once feared
You see this molecule, co2 is quite weird

It can absorb those frequencies
Located in the infrared
And then in its bonds its energies stored
Giving rise to temperatures galore

Now is it just coincidence
That the top five warmest years
Since the 1890’s are:
1) 2005
2) 1998
3) 2002
4) 2003
5) 2004

woman

all chemistry begun from clay?
attractions established,
man from woman distanced,
evolving passions, love
a woman's beautiful ways,
life, spirit, atoms, exchanged through touch,
growing close, through time, together,
too trite to say as one.
What matters then,
her smile, her eyes,
the bond.

monkey

“Monkey” is an expression
My daughter says to me
When her frustration boils over
And angst is there to see.

I guess its better than others
That could come to her lips
Just recalling some of my own
Sends a shutter down my hips.

Its hard to sometimes take a breath
When troubles come our way
Yet those who do are an accomplished lot
And deserve a bit more to say.

chaos

Tis destiny the path we take
Though preordained or stochastic we make,
That question haunts our mortal souls
As we search our lives and fear the coals.

winter

snowman in the sunshine
icecycles in the moonlight
winter is magic
when you let your mind be free
School delays because of snow
thats all i want to know
and after school at the Y
I'll slided down the hill
but never cry.

One Hundred Day

Our class is the best we know that by far
its because of our teacher Mrs Cataldo, yeah she's the star.
We do math with Maddie, Molly, Tyler and Kate,
but for science with Sarah, Ashley, Danielle and Patrick we're never late.
Meara, Mark, Bianca and Ayush make spelling fun,
but with Tom, Gleb, Ashley and Eric we just like to run.
Yeah, Nelson Place rocks,
we all know that, but check out my socks,
They've got a heart I wear under my shoe,
that heart goes out from me, thats Ioana,
to you and you and you!

apples

apples are red
apples are yellow
even though I can't play the cello
when I eat and apple I feel so mellow.

chocolate

chocolate is sweet
and chocolate is nice
sometimes we meet
and it feels like vice.

moonlight

moonlight, moondark
seeing them,
causes dreams of an ark,
a boat to sail
through distant skies,
and with a deep inhale,
we let all senses roam the wonder as we fly,
ever mindful of that question, why?

dear God

dear God, when I got out of bed,
I hit my head,
is this how the day will go?
yes or no?
I wonder as we give thanks for food and clothes,
we work hard to make you smile,
as we go the extra mile,
thank you God for all you do!

poems

poems you can write,
and poems you can read,
but she likes to listen to ours,
as we feed.

messy room

there is a little girl,
with such a messy room,
her clothes lay in a whirl,
fallout from the after boom.

i guess its not all her fault,
for her father if worth his salt
would set the proper tone
keeping tidy, their tiny home.
