Jen

September,
She’s newly conceived,
with embryo,
on campus,
second graders follow,
as she walks and smiles.

Change follows time,
seasons pass,
from cells,
a fetus develops fast.
And the children laugh and sing.

April brings rebirth, and humanity rejoices.

So when mother dies from labor,
as son Will cries,
it shocks the mind,
and cripples emotions.

From this sadness,
question is cast.
How to ensure,
Jen, in spirit does endure?

half-mast

Cotton-polyester, dyed scarlet, cobalt, white,
Limply shrouds polls at mid-height.
Once the rare, solemn act,
Now morning the perceptual fact.

Multicolored alerts,
Overshadow
Archived alarms.
Tv’s static test pattern forlorn.

Silence now reigns
across her majesty's fruity purple plain mountains,
under a nation divided,
at half mast.

special

Eleven,
with his old soul.

don't see him for days...
yet the connection's deep.

When fearful or lonely,
he reaches me.

Affecting lives, he says:
the worse that can happen?

Perspective of the sage!
sets me straight,

Little boy,
my hero.

the german

His quick mind
just behind
gray eyes
that hypnotize
this man.

The boy is
no longer such.
Now,
my equal he,
its plain to see,
I’m his fan.

sixteen

daughter of sixteen,
seldom seen.

in comfort from the pain,
connections with others,
have been the gain.

often in life there's hurt,
then,
don't dispair
give back
to those who are there.
